When is the ball at its highest?

A ball is thrown straight up. Its height is h(t) = 20t − 5t² metres, t seconds after release.

Height (metres)Slope = 002024Time (seconds)
Upward speed: 20 − 10t = 0Highest point: 2 seconds

The slope of a height graph gives the ball’s upward speed. At the highest point, the slope is zero before the ball starts to fall.
